South of Kona, looking north towards the town.

IMG_0448

From the same lookout point as the previous picture, south of Kona, looking south. Our timeshare is just left of the center of this picture.

IMG_0450

A sign describing the lava caves and tubes at the scenic point where we took the two previous pictures.

IMG_0451

A picture of Da Kine Bailbonds south of Kona- the one that is the subject of Dog the Bounty Hunter TV show. This office actually is run by Dog\'s son - the main office is in Honolulu.

IMG_0455

This is a recreation of King Kamehameha\'s temple on Kailua-Kona bay, the original was burned after his death. We attended a luau at this site.

IMG_0459

This was actually the high point of our luau - the entry of the royal prosession. We much preferred the luau we attended on Kauai a couple years ago. Ah well.

IMG_0462

Another picture of the royal prosession, with the Hualalai volcano that towers over Kona visible in the background (as well as the ever present clouds at the peak.)

IMG_0465

The luau was only OK. We found it a bit odd that one of the dances celebrated the Hawaiian responsible for causing the Christian missionaries to go Hawaii... as the missoinaries BANNED the hula, and it was decades before it was allowed to be performed in public.

IMG_0467

A picture of our plane back from Kona to Oahu. The Kona airport is almost completely open without any roofs, so one would presume it does not receive too much rain.

IMG_0474

A view of the Kona airport runway, which shows its bleak nature. Don\'t be surpised when you land. The airport was built on a lava flow from around 1800, and thus is quite barren. It gets pretty lush fast once you leave the airport.

IMG_0475

A last view before we get on the plane to leave Kona. In the distance we can see the clouds partially clearing over Hualalai.

IMG_0476

A view of downtown Honolulu from the airport, showing the buildings and Diamond Head.

IMG_0478

Another view of Honolulu, showing the mountains to the left, the downtown buildings, and Diamond Head. We\'re in the waiting lounge to head back home- so sad, but we\'re already plotting our return trip to Hawaii. We love the Big Island!

IMG_0480

Some of our underwater shots from our snorkeling trips in Kona.

IMG001

A turtle! We loved that the fish and turtles were up so close to shore... and relatively easy to take pictures of.

IMG003

Love all the different colored fish.

IMG008

Jen loves the lemon yellow ones.

IMG009

A pufferfish just floating by. Careful not to spook him...

IMG012

South of Kona, looking north towards the town.
